The article reflects on moving workspaces into homes during and after the Covid-19-induced lockdown. In our qualitative research in India, we investigate the processes of place-making and redrawing of boundaries between paid and unpaid care work. Through interviews and autoethnographic reflections, we analyse the process of new workspace making. We examine the erasing of the home from the workspace where historical hierarchies of gender and caste mediated the (re) organising of work boundaries between paid knowledge and unpaid care work. The study is based in a context where social and physical infrastructure for paid knowledge work could not be assumed to be available in homes. The paper contributes to the literature on place-making with stories from a new context. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Purpose: Amid the COVID-19 contamination, people are bound to use contactless FinTech payment services. Because of restrictions on physical movement and avoidance of touching physical money, people willingly choose mobile payment, resulting in enormous growth in FinTech payment service industries. Because of this, this study aims to examine the effect of factors affecting Gen X and Millennials users to use FinTech payment services. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used 328 responses collected through convenience sampling of Indian users aged between 26 and 57 years in the Delhi-NCR region who are users of FinTech payment services. Findings: The authors’ findings verified that in India, perceived COVID-19 risk, perceived severity for COVID, individual mobility, subjective norms, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness have statistically significant impacts on FinTech payment services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Structural equation modelling was used to study the proposed research model. Overall, the model predicted 76.9 % of the variation in intention to use FinTech payment services by the abovesaid variables by Indian users during a pandemic. Practical implications: This study will provide valuable insight to all FinTech service providers and stakeholders in planning and designing the concerned policy. It will be able to draw the attention of users more. Originality/value: This research added a valuable theory to the existing technology adoption model (TAM) theory. Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted 222 countries across the globe, with millions of people losing their lives. The threat from the virus may be assessed from the fact that most countries across the world have been forced to order partial or complete shutdown of their economies for a period of time to contain the spread of the virus. The fallout of this action manifested in loss of livelihood, migration of the labor force and severe impact on mental health due to the long duration of confinement to homes or residences. Design/methodology/approach: The current study identifies the focus areas of the research conducted on the COVID-19 pandemic. Abstracts of papers on the subject were collated from the SCOPUS database for the period December 2019 to June 2020. The collected sample data (after preprocessing) was analyzed using Topic Modeling with Latent Dirichlet Allocation. Findings: Based on the research papers published within the mentioned timeframe, the study identifies the 10 most prominent topics that formed the area of interest for the COVID-19 pandemic research. Stress plays a critical role in information security policy (ISP) compliance behavior. Since there are multiple sources of stress, the current literature does not provide a consistent view of the association between stress and ISP compliance behavior. Understanding the significance of the association between stress and ISP compliance behavior is valuable for managers, especially in managing the tradeoff between stress and ISP compliance behavior among individuals. It is also important to understand why there has been so much inconsistency in past studies. Thus, we attempted a meta-analysis to provide a generalized interpretation of the association between stress and ISP non-compliance behavior. A systematic literature review and a meta-analysis are conducted to examine the underlying contradiction and aggregate the findings of relevant studies. The results of this meta-analysis confirmed a weak positive correlation between stress and ISP non-compliance behavior. Demographic characteristics like age, country, and the category of the respondents (employee vs non-employee) are significant predictors of the association between stress and ISP non-compliance behavior. The meta-analysis presented here is also pertinent to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, which forced organizations to engage with their employees in new working conditions, putting employees under more stress and strain. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

Purpose: Researchers have worked diligently to find the factors that foster organizational trust, but the causal relationships between the enablers of organizational trust have remained unexplored. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to map and analyze the causal link structures of organizational trust enablers. Design/methodology/approach: Data were gathered from employees working in Indian manufacturing organizations. The decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) approach was used to test the cause-and-effect linkages among organizational trust enablers. Findings: The empirical evidence shows that 6 out of 14 enablers are causal, namely, organizational justice, person–organization fit, corporate citizenship, positive leadership behavior, relational quality and job satisfaction. Practical implications: The findings of the study offer a deeper understanding of identified enablers of organizational trust and their linkages with other outcome enablers. Furthermore, the findings provided in the current study will assist top authorities, practitioners and HR managers in focusing on the select causal organizational trust enablers. In addition, the ranking established in this study will help organizations in directing their efforts and resources toward the few select enablers that help to facilitate other consequent enablers of organizational trust. In other words, the results of the study would help in gaining the advantages of efficiency in fostering trust at work. Originality/value: By providing the empirically valid causal framework of organizational trust enablers, the present study makes a novel contribution to the field. Also, the findings of this study would help organizational policymakers, HR managers and organizational behavior practitioners in developing a better understanding of inculcating trust at work. Furthermore, the use of these enablers will help to foster a trustworthy environment at work. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Foodservice firms have been among the most affected business units during the COVID-19 pandemic. The slew of lockdowns and resulting apprehensions of contracting virus infections have largely deterred customers from patronizing various food outlets. However, with internet assistance consumers have increasingly found perceived refuge from unsafe dining experiences. As a result, the paper makes attempt to identify the determinants of customers’ dining experience in restaurants. A total of 1,545 customer reviews from 97 foodservice outlets of 14 Indian cities were collected. R programming was used to perform qualitative analysis on the reviews to identify the features. Bigram analysis was applied to calculate the repeated phrases. Based on the repeated phrases, researchers measured the factors that contribute toward the customers’ dining experience. The findings suggest that food quality and taste, food variety, staff behavior, restaurant ambience, along with social distance and safety norms mainly determine guest satisfaction. The findings also reveal that hotels need to apply recovery strategies such as training staff to adapt to the new-normal strategies and provide a safe environment to improve restaurant businesses. This study uses novel dataset and the findings essentially contribute to the food service literature. Further study can be done using big data in varied settings. © 2022 Taylor & Francis.

This paper has two objectives: to locate the global trade pattern and to compute the export potential of world economies. Considering the maximum number of countries and maintaining a good representative sample of the overall international trade, an empirical examination is conducted by utilizing the trade complementary index and the per-capita income variable in the standard gravity model. The main aim is to determine which of the two theoretical frameworks―either the Heckscher-Ohlin theory, which is based on factor endowments or the Modern Trade theory of Krugman-Helpman and Linder, based on the intra-industry trade―is explaining the overall global trade flows. The estimated results support the factor endowments trade theory. In other words, the observed trade patterns conform to the Heckscher-Ohlin theory of trade over intra-industry Modern trade theories. The inference drawn is based on the significantly positive coefficient of the trade complementarity index and the absolute differenced PCI variable. Furthermore, as far as export potential is concerned, there exists a vast scope for the export potential across economies. These countries can exploit the existing export potential through trade cooperation and integration at the regional and the bilateral level. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Indian Econometric Society.

Globally, a whopping increase in solid waste (SW) generation and the risks posed by climate change are major concerns. A wide spread practice for disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW) is landfill, which swells with population and urbanization. Waste, if treated properly, can be used to produce renewable energy. The recent global event COP 27 mainly stressed on production of renewable energy to achieve the Net Zero target. The MSW landfill is the most significant anthropogenic source of methane (CH4) emission. On one side, CH4 is a greenhouse gas (GHG), and on the other it is a main component of biogas. Wastewater that collects due to rainwater percolation in landfills creates landfill leachate. There is a need to understand global landfill management practices thoroughly for implementation of better practices and policies related to this threat. This study critically reviews recent publications on leachate and landfill gas. The review discusses leachate treatment and landfill gas emissions, focusing on the possible reduction technology of CH4 emission and its impact on the environment. Mixed leachate will benefit from the combinational therapy method because of its intricate combination. Implementation of circular material management, entrepreneurship ideas, blockchain, machine learning, LCA usage in waste management, and economic benefits from CH4 production have been emphasized. Bibliometric analysis of 908 articles from the last 37 years revealed that industrialized nations dominate this research domain, with the United States having the highest number of citations. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically impacted traditional classroom education and all the associated multi-stakeholders (Universities, teachers, and students). With education embracing online media, there is a need to develop sustainable models of education. Social media is a tool that can be effectively used to create sustainable development in higher education. In this context, this study emphasizes on the development of an empirical model for intention to use social media in online/blended learning in a multi-stakeholder (Universities, teachers, and students) context. A total of 330 samples were collected through an online survey from students/faculties of various public and private higher educational institutions in India. The data from the survey was analyzed employing Explorative Factor Analysis (EFA) using R-Studio and, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Path Analysis (AP) using Structure Equation Modelling (SEM) on the AMOS 20.0 software platform. Results demonstrate a significant impact of perceived privacy, perceived security, ICT facility, and trust, on the intention to use social media in educational institutions following online/blended learning methods. The mediation of collectivism is also confirmed in this study. Hence, our findings will add value to the existing literature on online/blended learning and the sustainable development of education. By implementing more stringent security and privacy policies, good Internet connectivity, better technology infrastructure, and excellent and smart features in mobile, tablets, and laptops social media and collective effort of students, instructors, and external student communities may generate trust in the stakeholders, motivating them to use social media as a tool in higher education. Purpose: The ongoing pandemic has gravely affected different facets of society and economic trades worldwide. During the outbreak, most manufacturing and service sectors were closed across the globe except for essential commodities such as food and medicines. Consequently, recent literature has focused on studying supply chain resilience and sustainability in different pandemic contexts. This study aims to add to the existing literature by exploring the economic, environmental and societal aspects affecting the food supply chain and assessing the impact of COVID-19 on food sustainability. Design/methodology/approach: A survey method has been adopted with a questionnaire instrument investigating the role of technology, government policies, geopolitics and intermediaries on sustainable organisational management. A five-point Likert scale (i.e. 1 = strongly disagree; 5 = strongly agree) is used to evaluate the responses. The findings are based on 131 responses from entry-level workers and senior executives of different food supply chains across Asia and Europe. The data has been analysed to derive insights into the impacts of this pandemic. Findings: The survey concludes with the significant impact of COVID-19 on the three pillars of sustainability, i.e. economic, social and environmental dimensions. The empirical analysis shows digitalisation and its applications help mitigate the negative effect of COVID-19 on sustainability. In addition, the supportive government policies and intermediatory interventions were helpful in improving sustainability at each level. Research limitations/implications: The findings have implications for businesses and policymakers. Companies can learn from the advantages of digitalisation to counter the challenges imposed by the pandemic or similar situations in the future in maintaining the sustainability of their supply chains. Managers can also learn the importance of effective organisational management in driving sustainability. Finally, policymakers can devise policies to support businesses in adopting sustainable practices in their supply chains. Originality/value: This study adds to the limited literature exploring the impact of COVID-19 on food supply chain sustainability through the triple bottom line lens. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is also one of the first empirical studies to examine the effect of technology, government and organisational management practices on the sustainability of food supply chains. © 2022, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Objective of the study: This study aims to understand the need for landscape assessment of the 18 non-attainment cities in the state of Maharashtra, to understand and rank the cities according to the need and necessity for strategic implementation of air quality management. This air quality management is a National Clean Air Programme initiative to curb the air pollution level in all the highly polluted Indian cities by 20–30% till 2024. Methodology: The ranking and selection of the cities consisted of a two-phase approach including (a) desk research and (b) field interventions and stakeholders’ consultations. The first phase included (ai) review of 18 non-attainment cities in Maharashtra, (aii) identification of suitable indicators to inform prioritisation during the ranking process, (aiii) data collection and analysis of the indicators and (aiv) the ranking of the 18 non-attainment cities in Maharashtra. The second phase, i.e. field interventions included (bi) Mapping of stakeholders and field visits, (bii) the consultations with the stakeholders, (biii) information and data collection and (biv) ranking and selection of cities. On analysing the score obtained from both the approaches a ranking of all the cities is done accordingly. Results and discussion: The screening of cities from the first phase gave a possible list of 8 cities—Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Solapur. Further, the second round of analysis involving field interventions and stakeholder consultations was done within the 8 cities to find out the most suitable list of two to 5 cities. The second research analysis gave Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune. A more granular stakeholder consultation resulted in the selection of cities like Navi Mumbai and Pune as the cities where implementation of new strategies seemed feasible. Intervention and activities: New strategic interventions like (a) strengthen the clean air ecosystem/institutions, (b) air quality monitoring and health impact assessment, and (c) skill development to ensure the long-term sustainability of initiatives planned for the cities. Purpose: This paper aims to present a simple and innovative fuzzy methodology-based lean performance measurement system (L-PMS) for an Indian automotive supply chain. The paper also enlightens the influence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on supply chains and the practical implications of the unprecedented disruptions on the performance measurement systems. Design/methodology/approach: The L-PMS is divided into three phases. In the first phase, the key performance indicator (KPI) list, as deemed fit by the organization, is prepared using literature and suggestions from the case organization. The list contains 61 KPIs measuring 24 performance dimensions in seven functional areas of the supply chain. In the second phase, the KPI performance data (actual, best and worst) are collected using the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. In the last phase, the leanness score of the case organization is calculated at four levels – KPI, dimension, functional area and overall organization. Findings: The overall leanness score of the case organization is 60%. The case organization uses KPIs from all seven functional areas, but it needs to improve the number of KPIs in administration and supplier management functional areas. The case organization uses only quantitative KPIs. However, the performance dimensions at the middle level are adequate. The leanness level of the case organization in different areas is highly variable (ranges from 45% to 91%). Research limitations/implications: The major limitation of the study is that the case study is done at a single organization. Practical implications: The managers at the different levels of the hierarchy can use the lean performance measurement score to leverage the better performing areas/dimensions/KPIs and improve poor performing areas/dimensions/KPIs. The lean performance measurement at functional area level can help leadership to give responsibility to different people for the improvement of leanness with respect to different dimensions/functional areas. The disruptive impact of COVID-19 should clearly be understood by the managers to make appropriate decisions based on the severity as measured at different levels. Originality/value: According to the authors' best knowledge, this is the first lean performance measurement application at the four hierarchical levels (KPI, performance dimension, functional area and overall organization). © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Purpose: This paper proposes an integrated value stream mapping (VSM) for a complex assembly line to improve the leanness of a complex automotive component manufacturing organization. Design/methodology/approach: This study depicts the application of VSM at the case organization, where top management is concerned about the challenges of higher cycle time and lower productivity. Gemba walks were conducted to establish the concept of “walk the flow, create the flow” along the assembly line. The multi-hierarchical cross-functional team developed the current value stream map to know the “as-is” state. Then, the team analysed the current VSM and proposed the future VSM for the “to-be” state. Findings: The integrated VSM shows different processes and work cells, various wastes, non-value-added activities, cycle time, uptime and the material and information flows for both products of the assembly line on the same map. The integrated VSM reduced cycle time, non-value-added activities, work in process inventory and improved line efficiency and production per labour hour for both the products, simultaneously. Research limitations/implications: The limitation of the study is that the study focussed only on the application of VSM for one complex assembly only. Future research may be conducted using the developed integrated VSM approach in other complex production environments. Practical implications: Managers can identify and reduce system waste by incorporating the concept of integrated VSM in a complex production or assembly environment where two or more products are being manufactured/assembled with low similarity. Originality/value: The application of VSM for assembly lines is highly challenging because of merging flows, a large number of child parts in the lines and assembly of more than one product on the same line. © 2022, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Deploying drones for rapid pickup and delivery for on-demand customers in the hyperlocal market is unexplored in literature and demands attention. Maximizing customer pickup and deliveries with a limited drone flight endurance is essential but is hard to achieve in practice because of many service requests by on-demand customers. It mandates that drones cover extra mileage to visit docking stations in between services for recharge. Optimally allocating the services on available flight endurance and minimizing the docking station visits to complete all scheduled services is a predominant requirement for effective drone operations in a hyperlocal market. This problem is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming model, and a heuristic algorithm is proposed to attempt various practical size problems, with near-optimal solutions reported. The paper offers valuable insights for practitioners and future researchers wishing to analyze the performance of drone operations and determine the appropriate number of drones required for the hyperlocal market based on service demand. © National Academy of Sciences: Transportation Research Board 2022.

In the sequel, the seller provides the buyers with a partial trade credit policy because the partial trade-credit policy is more efficient than a full trade-credit policy. After all, it reduces the possibility of loss for the lender. The main objective of this study is to reduce the total unit cost by determining the replenishment cycle time, order quantity, and preservation technology cost. The mathematical formulation and solution of all possible conditions of the partial trade-credit policy for deteriorating items have been inserted. Numerous theorems and lemmas have been inserted to obtain the optimal solution analytically. Several previous inventory models have been given as exceptional cases. Finally, numerical examples and managerial implications are incorporated to validate the proposed model. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The National Academy of Sciences, India.

In recent times, ethical consumerism has motivated firms to behave ethically to garner various benefits for their brands. More specifically, firms have become more conscious of consumers' perceptions of brand ethicality. Thus, recent research on this topic attempts to explore the factors that can lead to the formation of perceptions of brand ethicality and its favorable outcomes for the brand. This research contributes to the existing literature on brand ethicality by examining the role of perceived brand marketing communications in engendering perceptions of brand ethicality among consumers. Further, this research explores online brand community engagement as the outcome of perceived brand ethicality. The study's results based on the analysis of 397 responses exhibit that various elements of brand communications tend to generate favorable perceptions of brand ethicality. Such perceptions of the brand ethicality further induce an inclination towards engaging with online communities of such brands. The study offers specific implications for academicians and practitioners. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd
