Companies sign prior contracts for working capital demand loans with banks to mitigate their working capital shortfall. In order to honor the contract, banks also undertake lines of credit agreements in the interbank market to protect themselves from liquidity mismatch. The paper proposed a mathematical model to assess the per-formance of banks in a probabilistic environment, where corporates exercise their options for working capital loans and banks face liquidity problems, therefore resort to lines of credit in the interbank market. The paper through simulation examined the effect of expected income and expenses, at different probabilities for companies exercising their options for different quantities of working capital demand loans, and banks approaching the interbank market for lines of credit. It is found that as the probability of exercising working capital demand loans increases, the net-interest income for banks also increases. The model is further validated with unique primary data for a bank having overdraft contracts with 55 companies in an interbank market of 22 banks. The paper uses the network theory to examine the stability of banks in an interbank market. This model will help banks with policy formulations to maximize net-interest income by considering the number of corporates signing overdraft contracts, overdraft interest rate, the probability of corporates exercising overdraft contracts, and the number of banks to be considered in an inter-bank market.

PurposeIn mobile banking (m-banking), understanding the factors contributing to customer satisfaction is crucial for bank managers to design effective strategies for enhancing the uptake of mobile banking services. This study assesses the relationships between quality, technology acceptance and credibility factors and behavioural outcomes (actual use, continuance intention and loyalty) and satisfaction with m-banking. It further investigates the moderating influence of economy type, innovation level, connectivity level and sample size on all these relationships.Design/methodology/approachThe study employs a meta-analysis technique and reviews 54 published studies to investigate the antecedents and consequences of satisfaction with m-banking.FindingsThe study finds a significant relationship between satisfaction with m-banking and quality, technology acceptance and credibility factors and behavioural outcomes. It concludes that the moderating effect of economy type, innovation level, connectivity level and sample size partially moderate the majority of the hypothesized relationships.Research limitations/implicationsDrawing on a comprehensive literature review, this study presents a novel framework elucidating the antecedents and behavioural outcomes of satisfaction with mobile banking. It contributes to the literature by exploring the moderating effects of sample size and country context on the relationships between these factors, presenting important implications for future mobile banking research.Practical implicationsThis study has practical implications for m-banking service providers, offering insights into the factors that drive user satisfaction with mobile banking and highlighting the need for tailored strategies in different country contexts.Originality/valueThis study examines the effects of factors leading to satisfaction and the subsequent outcomes within the context of m-banking. The findings offer fresh perspectives that can be valuable for managers and policymakers, enabling them to enhance customer satisfaction in the realm of m-banking.

PurposeOver the past two decades, the hub location domain has witnessed remarkable growth, yet no prior study reviewed and synthesised problem formulation and solution methodologies to address real-life challenges. Design/methodology/approachThe current study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric literature review to develop a thematic framework that describes and presents hub location problems. The work employs cluster, bibliometric, and social network analyses to delve into the essential themes. FindingsKey themes include cooperation, coopetition, sustainability, reshoring, and dynamic demand, contributing to the complex challenges in today's hub location problems. As the first work in this field, the study serves as a valuable single-source reference, providing scholars and industry practitioners with key insights into the evolution of hub location research, prominent research clusters, influential authors, leading countries, and crucial keywords. Research limitations/implicationsFindings have significant implications since they highlight the current state of hub location research and set the stage for future endeavours. Reliable electricity is a key factor in improving the living conditions of households and sustainable development of countries. Developing country governments and international organizations address the question of how to obtain a reliable supply of electricity and thus eliminate power outages at the top of their political agendas. In this framework, the aim of this paper is to estimate the willingness to pay of Indian urban consumers for having a continuous supply of electricity, avoiding unexpected power outages, using contingent valuation method. Two different econometric approaches are used. The households in the survey have been asked to state their willingness to pay for five different types of outages. Empirical data from 1043 Indian households has been analyzed using double hurdle approach. The econometric results indicate that, among the investigated households with an average individual annual income around $1630,00, their willingness to pay to avoid power outage strictly depend on the length of outages ranging, on average, from $0.37 (2 h) $3.00 (12 h), that is, households prefer to reduce the duration of outages. Further, income and environmental attitude of respondents positively influence higher WTP to avoid power outages. Our findings provide useful insights for policy makers to design and promote more reliable and customer centric energy generation and distribution models.

Several governments are leveraging social media for political communication. While the phenomenon of gate -keeping in filtering information through social media has received attention from scholars, the role of diverse meso-entities (comprising pressure groups, experts, and professionals) in influencing digital political communication remains understudied. We explore the trend in communicating a specific program for electoral gains and identify different types of entities that reshape and disseminate political communication on Twitter, with an illustration of the launch of the public health insurance program in India. We find the significant presence of meso-level entities that played an instrumental role in influencing political communication from macro to microlevel entities through the digital platform. We extend the Jungherr, Schoen, and J & uuml;rgens (2016) framework of macro to micro -level political communication in social media by recommending a few propositions to be tested in future studies. Further, this study also contributes to information diffusion theory by explicating the role of various information intermediaries in influencing information flow from macro to micro users on social media platforms.

In contrast to the operational nature of business-to-consumer (B2C) enterprises, business-to-business (B2B) organizations emphasizes offering specialized products and services to their clients, which are businesses. Recognizing that B2B organizations are dealing with complex metadata in an ever-changing business context, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies possess the potential in assisting them analyse massive amounts of data, generating actionable insights, and formulating revolutionary ideas, potentially improving collaboration and innovation. As a result, this study adopts an empirical research approach to analyse the relationship among AI capabilities, open innovation, and business performance, with an emphasis on B2B companies, based on the theoretical foundations of social-technical system and contingency theories. This study investigated the relationship between AI capabilities and open innovation practices, as well as the effect they have on business performance, using survey data collected from 398 B2B multinational companies and structural equation modelling. The findings indicate that AI capabilities have a favourable effect on open innovation practices, which subsequently leads to an improvement in business performance. Notably, the impact of AI capabilities on business performance was found to be partially mediated. The examination of the moderating effect of environmental dynamism reveals that it exerts a significant influence on the relationship between AI capabilities and outbound open innovation. However, it does not have a significant moderating impact on the causal interaction of AI capabilities on both business performance and inbound open innovation. The ramifications of these findings are significant for managers and policymakers who are interested in fostering innovation and enhancing competitiveness within the B2B sector. The results underscore the crucial role of cultivating AI capabilities.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to develop a conceptual framework to understand how industry 4.0 technologies can help firms building supply chain resilience (SCR). With the increasing in turbulent business environment and other disruptive events, firms want to build robust and risk resilience supply chains. The study also explores the role of supply chain visibility (SCV) and environmental dynamism (ED) on the relationship between Industry 4.0 and SCR.Design/methodology/approachSurvey data from 354 firms designated by the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as well as organizations that work with these oil and gas firms was analyzed with structural equation modelling, hierarchical linear regression and necessary conditions analysis.FindingsThe findings reveal that Industry 4.0 base technologies enable firms to develop and exploit SCV to build SCR. Furthermore, Industry 4.0 base technologies substantially correlate with SCV under the differential effect of ED, improving SCR.Research limitations/implicationsThe cross-sectional data restrict the generalizability of the findings to other geographies and sectors.Originality/valueThis study can assist managers in making well-informed decisions about the strategic use of technology to increase SCV and foster resilient supply chains.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine the factors that drive superior social enterprise performance for women-led social enterprises. The authors examined the role of individual entrepreneur cognitive characteristics contributing to social enterprise performance and recommended a framework for women's social entrepreneur development.Design/methodology/approachThe authors conducted an exploratory qualitative study of 22 women founders of social enterprises using a semi-structured questionnaire. In-depth interviews were conducted, and the transcripts were analyzed using thematic content analysis.FindingsThis study found a significant impact of self-efficacy on the performance of social enterprises among the studied subjects. Social support in the form of material, information and emotional support enhanced the ability of women social entrepreneurs to better achieve business sustenance and continuance of operations. The business skills of the women social entrepreneurs led them to move from just social impact generators to becoming thought leaders. The strong prosocial motivation of the founders contributed to building their resilience in the face of adversity.Research limitations/implicationsThis study extended the existing theories on social entrepreneurship by bringing the dimensions of entrepreneurial resilience in driving social enterprise performance along with business skills. Thus, it provided an enhanced explanation to the existing body of knowledge on contributors to superior social enterprise performance.Practical implicationsThis study gathered insights into the role of entrepreneurship education focused on business skills, especially for women social entrepreneurs in achieving superior performance for their social ventures. This also reconfirmed the role of social support and how structurally this could be provided by educational systems to aspiring women social entrepreneurs.Social implicationsThe practice of social entrepreneurship by women social entrepreneurs has been growing. Its importance in developing economies because of its ability to make grassroots changes at the lower levels of society was substantive. Women have shown more inclination toward social business with an affinity for prosocial contribution. By focusing on nurturing these social enterprises, governments as well as global agencies like the United Nations and the World Economic Forum could accelerate social change. Furthermore, support for the current women social entrepreneurs as change-makers making a difference in society could be achieved.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors' knowledge, this research study was one of the first studies on women social entrepreneurs focusing on the factors of self-efficacy, social support and entrepreneurial resilience contributing to social enterprise performance. This study combined the social entrepreneurship intention theory with entrepreneurial resilience and business skills to understand the factors leading to successful social enterprise performance for women social entrepreneurs.

Utilising a unique hand-collected dataset, this paper examines the relationship between media coverage of chief executive officers (CEOs) and cash holding. Using a sample of all stocks listed on the S&P 500 over the period 2005-2020, we find a positive and significant relationship between CEO media coverage and cash holdings. Our additional analyses demonstrate that CEO mobility and firm age positively moderate the relationship between CEO media coverage and corporate cash holdings, whereas CEO reputational capital and CEO tenure negatively moderate this relationship. This implies that CEOs with intensive media coverage tend to hold more cash than those with non-intensive media coverage because the media pays more attention to covering reputed CEOs who are characterised by great potential. Therefore, those with intensive media coverage hold more cash because they have more to lose in terms of future career outlook and financial incentives, especially since their reputations are fragile and easily damaged.

Public health communication acts as a social vaccine in case of pandemics. Prior research has identified that such initiatives often fail to reach vulnerable sections of society. In India, while the first wave of infections mainly hit the urban areas, rural areas witnessed a surge in the second wave. Using the World Bank data, we attempt to understand the effectiveness of public awareness campaigns in rural areas. We use the Ecological Model for public health and find how the various factors relate to public health outcomes. The ecological factors are found to be related to awareness of Covid-19. We find inadequate awareness about the symptoms and preventive measures associated with Covid-19 among the rural population. We also find significant differences in communication and awareness along dimensions such as education and access to media. The role played by SHGs and hospitals in dealing with pandemics is also evident in this study. We conclude that the disparity in public health communication needs to be bridged to ensure equitable access to health information in society during public health crises.

PurposeThis study aims to synthesize and integrate findings from diverse research on the antecedents and moderators of customer loyalty in the banking sector. Through a comprehensive meta-analysis, the research seeks to understand the primary drivers of bank loyalty and the potential cultural, economic and social indicators that might influence these relationships.Design/methodology/approachA rigorous meta-analysis was conducted, analyzing 275 studies with 1,365 effect sizes involving over 134,000 bank customers from more than 50 countries. The research evaluated the effect sizes of the main relationships between loyalty antecedents and consequences and assessed the influence of cultural, economic and social moderators.FindingsThe study identified key antecedents of bank loyalty, with responsiveness, privacy, commitment, trust and empathy being paramount. Cultural dimensions, such as individualism and masculinity, significantly moderate the relationships between trust and loyalty. The human development index (HDI) was also identified as a significant economic moderator, particularly influencing the relationship between satisfaction and bank loyalty.Originality/valueThis research offers a holistic view of bank loyalty, bridging gaps from conflicting findings in prior literature. Examining a vast array of studies across diverse cultural and economic contexts provides empirical generalizations about bank loyalty behavior, offering valuable insights for academia and the banking industry.

Purpose - This study aims to provide insights into different aspects of the extant literature on the effects of dividend announcements. Along with other outputs of a bibliometric study, this study provides deeper insights into the concentration of the extant literature and suggest future research agendas.Design/methodology/approach - This study uses the bibliometric, network and content analysis of the dividend announcement literature indexed in Scopus. This study presents the temporal analysis, the network of authors, countries, author citations and the co-occurrence of author keywords. This study provides the concentration of the extant literature in three clusters and unearth some key future research areas. This study uses the latent Dirichlet allocation method for robustness.Findings - A total of 54 documents examining the US sample have received 1,804 citations. Interestingly, the first article on emerging markets was published in 2002, when at least 34 articles on developed markets had already been published from 1982 to 2001. The content analysis of top-cited literature unveils diverse insights into dividend announcements' effects on financial markets. Contagion effects negatively impact non-announcing banks, particularly larger ones. Dividend maintenance affects stock market momentum, influencing loser returns. While current dividend/earnings news may not predict future company performance, information content dominates bond market reactions to post-dividend announcements. Concomitantly, while financially constrained firms exhibit short-term gains but worse long-term performance following dividend increases, larger stock dividends send stronger market signals in China.Originality/value - This study significantly contributes to the bibliometric and content analysis literature by analyzing the sample documents based on the sample examined. To the best of the authors' knowledge, no previous bibliometric study in this domain has been conducted to explore the markets (developed and emerging) to which the samples examined belong and the quality of publications from developed and emerging markets.

The language on green product packaging shapes consumers' shopping experiences and purchase intentions. This study aims to explore the effects of multilingual packaging on consumers' intention to purchase green products through a series of four experiments with data collected using the survey method. Experimental findings reveal that consumers' familiarity with the language used on green product packaging positively influences their likelihood of purchasing such products. This relationship is strengthened in the presence of higher social crowding. Furthermore, the study uncovers that including bilingual or trilingual packaging enhances consumers' propensity to purchase green products. This research demonstrates the positive impact of multilingual packaging on sales of green products, attracting a more extensive consumer base and increasing consumers' purchase intention for environmentally friendly products. Additionally, the study identifies the role of different levels of social crowding in the relationship between consumer language familiarity and their intention to purchase green products. Besides significantly contributing to the scholarly discourse, it provides practical implications for companies and brands in designing future effective green product packaging language. These findings contribute to promoting green products, offering valuable suggestions to assist companies in better designing and packaging their products to attract a broader consumer base and, thus, increase their market share.

The present article investigates whether the different ownership structures in the non-finance sector impact the Environmental, Social, and Governance scores (ESG). Panel data regression has been used for analyzing the publicly listed 500 listed companies on National Stock Exchange (NSE), India, excluding the banking and financial services sector from 2015 to 2020. The variables used are size, age, leverage, cost of debt, number of independent directors, number of women on board, market capitalization, interest coverage ratio, Government Ownership, and Private Ownership. Results reflected that government ownership had a positive and significant impact on the ESG scores of the companies, whereas there is an insignificant relationship with privately-owned companies. The study will be helpful for academicians to gain insight into the relationship between ownership structures and ESG scores.

The purpose of this two-part mixed-methods based study is to understand the effect of content characteristics of brand-posted social media content on consumer engagement in the recently emerged and rapidly growing unified payments interface (UPI) based digital payments sector in India. The Study 1 uses Instagram data collected using the Apify tool, an Instagram Scraper, for four leading UPI brands in India over eight months. Linear regression was performed on the dataset with likes as the dependent variable and content vividness, content appeal, and content interactivity as the independent variables. The qualitative Study 2, based on semi structured interviews of Instagram users who make UPI payments, corroborates Study 1, and provides a richer, more nuanced understanding of the phenomenon. For UPI brands, we found that entertaining and remunerative appeals are more effective than other content appeals in generating likes on Instagram. This research does not find a positive effect of relational appeal over information appeal on the number of likes, indicating that content with relational appeal is not very effective for UPI brands. Further, this study suggests interesting findings about the role of interactivity and vividness in driving consumer engagement on social media platforms. This study is among the first to focus on increasing consumer engagement with brand-posted social media content in the context of the nascent, high-potential, and rapidly growing UPI-based digital payments sector in India.

This paper investigates the effect of ESG (environmental, social, and governance) disclosure scores on the firm's performance (operational, financial, and market) using Indian firms. The study assesses the critical COVID period and provides empirical evidence from the world's 5th largest economy. The findings from empirical results declare that all components of ESG are not significantly related to firm performance. We conclude that the impact of ESG-related activities is yet to be witnessed tangibly for firm performance. The study also opens an array of future research opportunities.

Purpose- This study aims to embark on a bibliometric journey through the International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management (IJR&DM) to delve into its rich repository of applied retailing research. Design/methodology/approach- 626 publications in IJR&DM between 2015 and 2023 have been retrieved from Scopus for performance analysis of the journal's publication (productivity) and citation (impact) trends as well as a science mapping of the journal's collaborators (contributors) and major themes (contributions). Findings- The performance analysis highlights the growth in the productivity and impact of IJR&DM alongside its most cited publications, most prolific contributors, most relied-on journals, as well as the authors, institutions, countries, and journals that the journal has impacted the most. The co-authorship analysis reveals the collaboration (i.e., international with a high concentration in Europe and North America along with an emerging presence in Asia) of IJR&DM. Keyword co-occurrence analysis and bibliographic coupling reveal eight themes. Our exploration revealed close interconnections among various domains including retailing and adaptive strategies, channel strategies, customer experience, market innovations, operations management, relationship marketing, shopping motivation, and sustainability. Research limitations/implications- Although this study delivers a state-of-the-art overview of the retail industry through the scientific contributions from IJR&DM, it remains limited to the insights from a single authoritative source of knowledge on retailing. Originality/value- No review, to date, has been conducted for IJR&DM. This study provides the inaugural retrospective of the scientific contributions of IJR&DM, outlining publication and citation trends alongside the intellectual structure of its body of knowledge on retailing. Theoretically, this retrospective is pivotal in charting the intellectual growth and thematic nuances inherent in retail research. Practically, this study serves as a guide for practitioners, enabling them to make strategically informed decisions and craft forward-looking strategies in sync with current realities.

PurposeAuthors analyze a business model (BM) based on organizational performance. BMs are strategic tools used to achieve high performance. This study is based on two characteristics of causal complexity: conjunction and equifinality. Authors also examine the applicability of causal asymmetry in the relationship between BMs and organizational performance.Design/methodology/approachGenerally, the relationship between BM elements and organizational performance is analyzed using a correlational approach. This relationship is marked by causal complexity, which cannot be analyzed via such approach. Authors applied a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis with data from three time-periods and two performance variables for pharmaceutical firms.FindingsQualitative comparative analysis revealed that high performance resulted from configurations (combinations) of BM elements and not from the effects of individual elements. In addition, multiple configurations are available for achieving high performance. Causal asymmetry was observed in the configuration of the BM elements for high and low performances.Research limitations/implicationsUsing qualitative comparative analysis of data sets from three time-periods in the context of the pharmaceutical industry BM, authors integrated the theoretical constructs of causal complexity, namely conjunction, equifinality and causal asymmetry.Practical implicationsFindings related to conjunctions will help managers shift their focus from individual BM elements to combinations of BM elements. Additionally, the findings related to equifinality and causal asymmetry will allow flexibility in designing their company's BM according to the resource constraints their company faces.Originality/valueThis was one of the first few studies on BMs using the twin indicators of the organizational performance relationship and causal complexity.

A sustainable future entails addressing net-zero emissions, which balances greenhouse gas emissions, thereby mitigating climate change. This study explores the relationship between the information quality, system quality, and service quality of blockchain-enabled smart contracts (BSCs) with collaboration quality to achieve net-zero emissions. The study further explores the role of collaboration quality in influencing the intention-to-use BSC and organizational satisfaction. The study employed the revised DeLone and McLean model and validated it with data from 434 respondents using structural equation modeling. The results validate all the hypotheses derived from the updated DeLone and McLean information system (IS) success model. There exist significant relationships between information quality, system quality, and service quality in the BSCs leading to collaboration quality to achieve net-zero emissions. The study establishes the significant role of collaboration quality which positively impacts usage behavior and organizational satisfaction, mediated by the intention to use. The findings of this study offer insights for organizations and policymakers seeking to harness blockchain for environmental sustainability.
